Summer Chats: “It Only Hurts When I Laugh” -- Jewish Humor in a Time of Pandemic with Sascha Cohen

We will explore the nature and traditions of Jewish humor, especially dark comedy, gallows humor, and humor in the face of crisis. We will touch on folk humor, literary humor, stand-up comedy, and TV and film comedy. We will also unpack major characteristics of Jewish humor, such as linguistic wordplay, self-deprecation, shared suffering, and insider and outsider role plays. Each week, a few representative examples will be shared and discussed.  We will also laugh.

Tuesdays, every other week June 23, July 7, July 21, August 4, August 18, 3:30-5:00pm
